Editorial Policies

Copyright Policy

Ownership

Authors retain the copyright of their works. By accepting publication, the author grants the Journal of Applied Education a non-exclusive license for first publication, reproduction, dissemination, and archiving of the work in digital format.

Reuse License

Articles are preferably published under an open license (Creative Commons — CC BY 4.0), allowing content sharing and reuse as long as proper attribution is given to the author(s) and the source is mentioned. If there is a justified reason for another licensing regime, this will be agreed upon in writing between the author(s) and the editorial board.

Authorship and Assignments Declaration

At the time of submission, authors must declare authorship, the contribution of each co-author, and inform whether third parties hold rights over parts of the text (figures, tables, images). When third-party material is included, the author must provide proof of authorization for reproduction.

Conflicts and Multiple Publications

Submissions that have been fully published in another outlet (except clearly identified preprints) will not be accepted. In case of suspected plagiarism or self-plagiarism, the editorial office will conduct verification and take appropriate measures, which may include rejection, institutional notification, and communication to relevant databases/authorities.

Remuneration and Economic Rights

Any compensation for invited texts will be agreed upon in advance and recorded in a document attached to the publication authorization. The policy on economic rights and reuse will always be communicated at the time of article acceptance.

Evaluation Policy

Evaluation Modalities

  • Research articles, technical reports, and case studies: submitted to double-blind peer review, except for justified exceptions (e.g., indicated preprints).
  • Opinion pieces, interviews, reviews, and invited texts: evaluated by the editorial team and, when pertinent, by invited reviewers; may be published at the editorial team’s discretion without formal peer review.

Editorial Flow (summary)

  • Initial screening: verification of scope alignment, compliance with submission guidelines, and similarity analysis (plagiarism detection).
  • Peer review: when screening is positive, the article is sent to at least two ad hoc reviewers (or reviewers with proven expertise), selected according to subject affinity and absence of conflicts of interest.
  • Reports: reviewers must assess originality, methodology, analytical coherence, quality of conclusions, theoretical foundation, and ethical aspects. Reports should include clear recommendations and suggestions for text improvement.
  • Editorial decision: based on the reviews, the editorial team decides whether to accept, accept with minor corrections (suggested deadline: 15 days), request substantial revisions (suggested deadline: 30 days), or reject. Significant revisions may be sent for another review round.

Criteria and Guiding Questions for Reviewers

Reviewers are invited to consider issues such as: whether the work aligns with the journal’s scope; whether the research question/objective is clear; whether the theoretical framework and methodology are appropriate; whether results are presented transparently; whether conclusions derive from data; whether references are relevant and up to date; whether ethical aspects were observed; whether there are signs of plagiarism or inappropriate use of AI.

Conflict of Interest and Confidentiality

Reviewers must decline invitations when conflicts of interest exist (family ties, recent co-authorship, direct institutional link, etc.). The entire review process is confidential; files must not be shared outside the editorial process.

Deadlines and Responsibilities

As a guideline, the journal recommends the following: confirmation of availability to review within 5 days; submission of the review within 20 days, unless otherwise agreed. The editorial team may replace reviewers when necessary.

Transparency in Publication

Each published article will explicitly indicate: (i) whether it was spontaneously submitted or written by editorial invitation; and (ii) whether it underwent peer review. This information will be visible on the article’s page.

Misconduct and Integrity

Suspicions of misconduct (plagiarism, data fabrication, review manipulation, undeclared use of AI assistance) will be investigated by the editorial team, following best ethical practices, and may result in rejection, retraction, or notification to the involved institutions.

Open Access Policy

Access and Costs

The Journal of Applied Education is open access: all published content is freely available online without reading, download, or redistribution barriers. No submission or publication fees (APC) are charged to authors.

Licensing and Reuse

Articles are preferably made available under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 (CC BY 4.0), allowing reproduction, adaptation, and commercial use as long as authorship and the original source are cited. Third-party materials (images, tables) with usage restrictions will be identified, and their use will depend on respective permissions.

Archiving and Persistent Identification

When applicable, articles may in the future receive persistent identifiers (DOI) and will be archived in institutional repositories to ensure preservation and long-term access.

Open Science

The journal encourages open science practices: sharing of data, materials, and protocols when applicable, with clear indication of repositories and access policies for datasets. Authors must indicate data availability and, when necessary, any ethical or legal restrictions limiting sharing.
